Ferebee, Dennis Dozier

Ferebee (1815-1884) from Currituck County, NC, joined the Philanthropic Society in 1834 and graduated with third honors in 1839. He became a lawyer, serving in the NC House of Commons. Opposed to secession, when war came he commanded a North Carolina cavalry regiment. After the war he took part in the 1865 North Carolina Convention, then returned to Camden County to farm. His grandson became chancellor of the University in 1972 (Dictionary of North Carolina Biography 2:187-88).
